PLAY by AOL Music - AOL, Inc.

Play by AOL has been available to Android users since March of this year when the App was introduced at SXSW. Today iPhone users will finally be able to get their hands on the App Aol calls “The Instagram of Music”.

Play by Aol Music opens up to a simple information pane that goes over the basic features. After clicking you will be at the Play section which has a mini section at the bottom featuring the current song. The main feature of this app is a really nicely done scrolling album artwork display of various songs you can stream for absolutely free.

The first section on the bottom of the App titled Music is where you can Access all of the music tracks currently on your device. You can sort your music into Artist, Album, Song, Genre and Playlist. There is also a search feature which I found to work really well.

The next section is titled CD Listening Party and this is where you can access free streaming Albums provided by AOL, this is the same music featured in the play tab.

The third section, Shoutcast Radio is just that. You can browse by favorites, recent stations or by genre. This is a really great feature for a free App and I found it to work very well. You have the ability Favorite or share any shoutcast station (You can share any song within the app also, more on that later).

Finally the last two sections are MP3 of the day and SXSW Tracks. There are a good amount of tracks to stream within these two sections.

At the bottom there is a feed tab, alerts and profile. All three of these tabs require that you sign in with a Facebook or a Play account. To get the most out of this app we recommend signing in or creating an account. Account creation brings a complete social experience to the app with the ability to Share Tracks from the app with friends on Facebook or Twitter. This social aspect is a great way to discover and share new music.

As you can see from the features listed in the description I barely scratched the surface on exploring the features of this app. For a Free app the Play by AOL Music app is really solid. In all reality they could probably charge $.99 for this app. If you are a music lover you should give this app a try. Play could be a permanent replacement to the default iPod player on the iPhone.

I agree with your review. This is a really awesome app and to think it’s created by AOL. Did not think it would be that good.
