Clarion Announced As Newest Pandora Automotive Partner

The new Pandora-ready head unit from Clarion, model number CZ202, was unveiled today at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nev. The unit will be on sale in time for the holiday season.

The CZ202 from Clarion transfers control of the Pandora smartphone app to the head unit in the car dashboard. Using controls on the radio unit, a driver can access their Pandora personalized radio stations and refine them using thumbs-up and thumbs-down controls on the head unit.

Lincoln Luxury Models to Include Pandora

Pandora, the leading personalized radio service, is now a standard feature on three popular luxury Lincoln models: the MKZ, MKZ Hybrid and the Navigator. The vehicles arrived on dealer lots in September 2011.

Lincoln makes Pandora available via the SYNC system, using the AppLink feature, which is compatible with Android, BlackBerry and iPhone smartphones. Signature functions of SYNC AppLink include voice control over the Pandora smartphone app allowing drivers to change stations or give a song a thumbs-up or thumbs-down with simple voice commands. In addition, drivers can control Pandora through dashboard and steering wheel-mounted controls.

Steven Kritzman becomes Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales at Pandora

Pandora, the popular Internet radio service, today announced the appointment of Steven Kritzman to the role of Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales, reporting to Chief Revenue Officer John Trimble.

In his new role, Kritzman, who has been at Pandora since 2009 as the Director of Sales for the New York and mid-Atlantic region, will be responsible for setting and executing the U.S. sales strategy for the company’s Digital, Network Radio, and Spot Radio businesses. Additionally, he will manage Pandora’s national advertising sales teams.

Prior to joining Pandora, Kritzman spent more than 10 years at Clear Channel, where he held several leadership positions. His last role at Clear Channel was Director of Sales for five New York radio stations (Z100, WKTU, WLTW, WWPR, WAXQ) and was responsible for over $200 million dollars in top line revenue.

July ratings show Pandora has significant presence in top local markets

Edison Research today released audience analysis that showcases ratings for Pandora internet radio in top local markets in the United States. The numbers were announced at a Pandora Radio Innovators Summit in Los Angeles where PandoraFounder and Chief Strategy Officer Tim Westergren spoke with media buyers.

“Radio is radio,” said Westergren, “Pandora is simply a smart buy for local advertisers as well as national ones. In fact, some advertising agencies are designating Pandora with the call letters ‘WPAN.’ Listeners are increasingly turning to Pandora personalized radio to listen to music at home, at work, in the car and all points in between. It’s a great platform for advertisers to connect directly with their audience throughout the day.”

Said Edison Research President Larry Rosin, “We analyzed and converted Pandora’s data into AQH (average quarter hour), which is the standard metric for radio advertising buying. We believe this data demonstrates the significance and scope of Pandora’s audience at the local level, especially among 18-34 and 18-49 year olds.”

Edison Research examined how many listeners tuned into Pandora, how long each person listened and then converted that data into Average Quarter Hour metrics using industry-accepted methodology. In order to qualify as a listener, a person had to listen for at least five minutes within a quarter hour period. Also, for this analysis, Edison did not include Pandora One subscribers who are not served any ads.

Pandora Radio Broadens Automotive Integration

Internet radio leader expands presence in Ford vehicles and announces a new relationship with Scion.

Pandora Radio, the popular internet radio service, today announced that it has increased its automotive footprint via a new relationship with Scion and an expansion of its relationship with Ford Motor Company where the service will be available in 10 Ford vehicles and two Lincoln vehicles. Currently, Pandora has in-vehicle integrations with BMW, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, MINI and Scion. Additional automotive manufacturers who have announced plans to integrate Pandora into their vehicles include Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Hyundai and Toyota. The popular personalized radio service is also available via integrations in popular aftermarket automobile radios made by Alpine Electronics, JVC, Kenwood and Pioneer, with additional radios from Sony coming soon.

At the Pandora Analyst Day today in San Francisco, Executive Vice President of Business Development Jessica Steel said, “Our goal is to allow people to personalize their radio experience anytime, anywhere. Nearly 50% of radio consumption happens in the car, so it’s a natural venue for Pandora. We want to make the experience as easy in the car as it is at home, at the office, and on a mobile phone.”

This should be good news for Pandora who just announced yesterday it had reached the 100 Million Listener Milestone.

Pandora Radio reaches 100 million listeners, new Flash Free Design.

Pandora Radio announced today that it has reached an impressive 100 Million Users.

According to the Pandora Press Release more than 100 million people have registered to listen to Pandora’s free personalized radio service across hundreds of consumer electronic devices including computers, smart phones, TVs, set-top boxes, alarm clocks, tablets and car dashboards. On a monthly basis, 36 million listeners access Pandora across these multiple platforms as Pandora continues to increase its share of the radio listening market.

During the Company’s first Analyst Day, Pandora’s CEO and President Joe Kennedy noted that Pandora is redefining radio, where 80 percent of all music listening occurs. Pandora ended 2010 with 2.3 percent market share of all radio listening in the United States. Six months later, Pandora has increased its market share to 3.6 percent of all radio listening in the United States.
