Ian Schrager Takes Listeners Behind the Scenes and Even Into the Basement of Studio 54 on SiriusXM Radio

Sirius XM Radio announced today that, for the first time ever, Ian Schrager will share a behind the scenes look at the legendary club Studio 54, on Studio 54 Radio, channel 15.

The exclusive, revealing two-part interview special, “Schrager on Studio,” will feature the visionary Studio 54 co-founder and international hotelier sitting down with fashion icon Norma Kamali to share the inside story of the legendary and iconic nightclub.

“Ian Schrager unquestionably has had his finger on the pulse of pop culture for decades. “Schrager on Studio” Part 1 will air Saturday, December 24 at 6:00 pm ET and “Schrager on Studio” Part 2 will air on Sunday, December 25 at12:00 pm ET. The interview special will be rebroadcast on Saturday, December 31 at 4:00 pm ET and Sunday, January 1 at 2:00 pm ET.

SiriusXM launched Studio 54 Radio, a 24/7 commercial-free channel devoted to the best classic dance and disco, as a tribute to the music often played in the legendary club created by Rubell and Schrager. The channel, launched in August, features music that comes from the vaults and special record collections of insiders, much of which has never been heard since the club permanently closed its doors. Studio 54 Radio also includes The Marc and Myra Show, the weekly interview series featuring Studio 54 insiders sharing many never before told personal stories and anecdotes about the renowned club.

On October 18, SiriusXM, along with members of the original Studio 54 team, reopened Studio 54, at its original location, for “One Night Only.”

SiriusXM to Reopen Studio 54 for One Night Only

Sirius XM Radio announced today that the legendary club Studio 54 will reopen at its original location, for the first time in more than 25 years, for one night only on Tuesday, October 18.

Decades after the opening of one of the most celebrated discos in the world, SiriusXM reunites with members of the original team that worked behind the scenes at the club during its 1977-1981 heyday. They will re-create what will be billed as “One More Night” of the iconic ’70s nightlife glamour inside the famed Studio 54 at 254 West 54th Street.

The hand-picked collaborators who choreographed Studio’s nightly parties will create the Studio 54 experience for one more night. The team includes:  Karin Bacon, Studio 54 entertainment producer; Scott Bromley, Studio 54 architect; Marc Benecke, Studio 54 doorman; Myra Scheer, assistant to former Studio 54 co-owner Steve Rubell; Chuck Garelick, Studio 54′s former head of security; Scott Taylor, Studio 54′s former bartender and other insiders.

On hand to capture the club’s liberated atmosphere, original Studio 54 DJs Nicky Siano and Leroy Washington will play the iconic era’s dance classics. Celebrity guests, some from Steve Rubell’s master call list; and lucky SiriusXM listeners will be in attendance to flashback or dance for the first time in the internationally renowned club.

The evening will feature authentic, over the top details that helped define the Studio 54 experience, including the famed theatrics, backdrops, aerialist performers and dancers.

SiriusXM Launches Studio 54 Music Channel

Sirius XM Radio announced today that it will launch Studio 54 Radio, a 24/7 commercial-free channel devoted to the best classic dance and disco as a tribute to the music often played in the legendary club created by Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager. The channel will air music that comes from the vaults and special record collections of insiders, much of which has never been heard since the club’s doors shut.

SiriusXM’s Studio 54 Radio will be available on channel 15 and will launch on Monday, August 15 at 5:00 pm ET.

The new channel will showcase dance club classics and disco, featuring music from the ’70s and ’80s, as well as classic mixes from dance icon John “Jellybean” Benitez’s personal collection. The channel will also feature mix shows from the top DJs of the era.

Legendary Studio 54 doorman, Marc Benecke, and Myra Scheer, executive assistant to former Studio 54 co-owner Steve Rubell, will host weekly interview shows, The Marc and Myra Show, with Studio 54 insiders from the iconic era. Special guests will include Studio 54′s original head of security, original bartenders, waiters, busboys and well known club regulars and celebrities.

“My first day working at Studio 54 I was on the phone talking to Andy Warhol,” said Myra Scheer. “My assignment was to invite Steve’s master call list. Now Marc and I are calling them to be on our show and inviting listeners to hear some fascinating stories as to why to this day there is nothing that compares to it.”

SiriusXM listeners will hear music spun by iconic DJs and artists, including Studio 54 opening week DJ Nicky Siano and iconic DJ John “Jellybean” Benitez, who will executive produce the channel.

Studio 54 is one of the most well known disco clubs in the world. The club, which opened in 1977 in New York City, was an iconic gathering place for actors, musicians, artists and celebrities. Studio 54 was the brainchild of Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager.
